What’s in a Drone-in-a-Box? (DiaB Basics - part 2)

Welcome to the second episode in our Drone-in-a-Box Web Series. In this series, we will cover all you need to know about Drone-in-a-Box (DiaB) solutions, how they can enhance everyday tasks, and how you can integrate it into your operations.

The docking station (DJI Dock)

The docking station plays four key roles:

  • Storing and protecting the drone from the environment and third parties,
  • monitoring the environment and its conditions to ensure the drone can operate safely,
  • ensuring the drone stays fully charged for the next operation,
  • and ensuring the data transfers between the drone and stakeholders.

Hardware

The dock is certified to IP55 and works in temperatures ranging from -35℃ to 50℃. It features a wide-angle security camera, weather station and rain detector. These are used to understand the environment and monitor what's going on around the dock visually.

On the on the operations side, the dock features an automatic charging system, an RTK module for improved positioning, LTE slot for remote operations, omnidirectional antennas to ensure connectivity, and an edge computing expansion slot allowing data to be processed locally.

The dock also is equipped with an emergency stop button, electrical isolation circuitry, and a USB port to allow an operator to plug in when required.

Software

DJI Dock integrates with DJI's own FlightHub 2 software suite, allowing for full control of operation setup, data management, and live operation tracking. Dock can also integrate with third-party software via its API.

The drone (DJI M30T)

DJI Dock works with a special version the DJI Matrice 30T that allows for charging through the rear legs. The M30T has a flight time of 41 minutes, an operational range of 7km, and is equipped with the following imaging system.

  • Wide camera
    • 12 MP 1/2'' CMOS Sensor
    • 84° Field of View
    • Video Resolution: 4K/30fps
  • Zoom camera
    • 48 MP 1/2'' CMOS Sensor
    • 5x-16x Optical Zoom
    • 200x Hybrid Zoom
    • Photo Resolution: 8K
    • Video Resolution: 4K/30fps
  • Thermal imaging camera
    • Resolution: 640×512
    • Frame Rate: 30fps
    • Measurement Accuracy: ±2°C or ±2%
  • Laser range finder
    • Range: 3 m - 1200 m
    • Accuracy: ±(0.2m+D×0.15%)
